A tie in the Isle of Skye tartan, woven in reiver weight wool at Lochcarron's mill in Selkirk. The tartan was registered in 1992 by Mrs Rosemary Nicolson Samios, an Australian of Skye descent, and the design was chosen through a worldwide competition. The winning entry came from Angus MacLeod from Lewis, a weaver who produced the first commercial quantities at Lochcarron Weavers in North Strome in 1993, within sight of the Cuillin Mountains.
The colours take their cues from Skye itself: the greens of the hillsides, the purple of the heather, the blues and browns of the coastal landscape, with a white overcheck running through. The reiver weight wool gives the tie enough drape to knot well without bulk.
Made in Scotland by Lochcarron of Scotland, Waverley Mill, Selkirk.
