What Payment Methods Do You Support?

We accept online payment in a secure environment by credit and debit card, PayPal, Google Pay, and Apple Pay.

We currently provide Clearplay and Klarna options, allowing you to conveniently spread out the cost of your purchase.

Do You Sell Gift Vouchers?

What Tartans are Available for Hire?

We provide a diverse selection of approximately 20 rental tartans, including our exclusive Hebridean tartans meticulously crafted with a versatile grey base complemented by trendy accents. Additionally, we offer classic clan tartans and non-clan tartans.

For those seeking a truly personalised touch, our custom-made kilt service allows you to choose your desired tartan, whether it's a traditional clan pattern or a unique design close to your heart. For a nominal fee, you can wear the tartan of your choice, returning it after the event or opting to purchase it outright. This offers the flexibility to wear your preferred tartan without compromise."

What Kilt Jackets are Available for Hire?

We offer six distinct jacket styles for hire with a few colour choices. These versatile options can be worn with or without waistcoats, allowing for a varied look.

You can further customise your ensemble by changing the neckwear or adding a belt. For a truly unique touch, consider purchasing a personalised item such as a bespoke sporran or a kilt pin that has a meaning for you.

How Far in Advance Should I book My Hire?

We highly recommend booking as early as you can to secure the choices you want for your desired dates. Our system enables bookings up to two years in advance. However, we advise booking an appointment to revisit closer to the event date for a sizing check and to review your booking details if you do book over a year in advance.

However, even if you have left it to the very last minute we will still usually be able to help you out, albeit with a few less options.

Do I Need an Appointment to Hire a Kilt?

While appointments are encouraged, they're not mandatory. Scheduling an appointment helps us learn about your preferences beforehand, ensuring a tailored experience during your visit. Our staff will be ready to assist you with discussions, bookings, and measurements, providing a more personalised service to meet your needs.

Do I Need to Bring Identification?

On the day of booking, we require you to bring your photographic driving license and proof of your current address dated within the last 30 days.  If you pay by credit or debit card, one form of Identification will suffice.

What Deposit Do You Require For a Kilt Hire?

We suggest a minimum non-refundable deposit of £40 per hire to be paid as part of your balance, the remaining balance can be paid when or before you collect your outfit.

Can I Book My Hire Online with You?

Certainly! You can easily book your hire online with our experienced team overseeing the process. They'll ensure everything aligns seamlessly and double-check sizes and selections if needed.

How Long is the Kilt Hire Period?

Our standard hire period spans 4 days, covering both the collection and return dates (e.g., Friday to Monday). Any additional days beyond this are subject to a 10% surcharge per day. If you anticipate needing a kilt for an extended period, it might be worth considering investing in your own outfit for long-term use.

What Do I Do If I Don't Have a Credit Card?

Not to worry, we do accept cash, with this, we will need one further form of identification in the form of a bill/letter/bank statement sent to your home within the last 30 days along with your driver's license.  If you don’t have any of these things, we are happy to accept a cash deposit for each outfit of £500.

How Do I Measure Myself For a Kilt?

We have a self-measurement form that we can send you or you can follow the easy online instructions.  The most important thing is to be as accurate as possible with your measurements.

What Sizes Do We Hire?

We strive to accommodate all sizes in our outfits. Our kilt waists begin from 18 inches (suitable for toddlers of approximately 2 years old) and extend up to 68 inches.

Similarly, our jacket chest sizes range from 20 inches, catering to toddlers, up to 68 inches.

While we endeavour to offer a wide range of sizes, availability may vary, and some sizes are limited. Therefore, we recommend booking early to secure your preferred choice.

Can You Carry Out Kilt Alterations?

Yes, we do. We can adjust the waist in or out and carry out a wide range of other repairs.

You can also choose to add a refresh to your alteration or repair. This updates the canvas, lining, straps and buckles, giving your kilt a fresh feel without taking it completely apart.

For a full restoration, we offer a rip-down and remake. This is where the kilt is carefully taken apart and rebuilt, often chosen when a family kilt is being passed down through generations. We can also preserve original details such as dated or named labels, so the history and authenticity remain intact.

Can I Return My Item?

If you're not happy with your purchase, please return the product within 30 days to us at 8 Yards, Unit 26 Hardengreen Industrial Estate, Dalkeith, EH22 3NX.
