The modern plaid originated with the traditional Feileadh Mòr (Great Plaid) worn in the Scottish Highlands. The Great Plaid was a large piece of cloth, half of which was pleated and belted about the waist, while the upper half was draped over the left shoulder, was then gathered in front and could be used as a cloak and hood during inclement weather.
All our plaids are handmade in-house from 100% wool. With a purled fringe along the edge, the plaid is worn over the left shoulder, typically they are worn with jackets that contain epaulettes on the shoulders however this is not mandatory, then held in place with a brooch of your choice. The perfect finishing touch for your kilt outfit.
Please note: A plaid brooch is not included but we stock a range available to buy separately.
